"Russian troops have entered the city..."Some of the residents were forcibly transferred to Russia."
Zelensky condemns Russia's attack on Mariupol as "a terror that will be remembered for centuries."

Local governments have said hundreds of residents have been bombed at school facilities as Russian troops continue to indiscriminately bombard Mariupol, a port city in southeastern Ukraine.

According to Reuters and other foreign media on the 20th (local time), the city council of Mariupol said, "Russian troops bombed the art school building where about 400 residents were evacuated," adding, "The building was destroyed and the evacuated residents are under the rubble."

However, Reuters added that it was not confirmed on its own.
Currently, Mariupol is surrounded by Russian troops and subjected to intensive bombing.
On the 16th, a Russian airstrike destroyed the theater building where residents were being evacuated.
It is said that the rescue operation of the theater is difficult due to the continued attacks by Russia.
Ukrainian authorities said they rescued about 130 people from the theater after the airstrike.

However, Ukrainian parliamentary human rights officer Lyudmila Denisova said, "It is estimated that 1,300 people are still left inside the collapsed theater building. I pray that all the victims can survive, but there is no news about them yet."

According to photos taken and released by U.S. private satellite company Maxa Technology on the 19th, the theater is almost destroyed, and the Russian word "children" that residents wrote in large letters on the front and back floors of the theater before the bombing is still visible, CNN said.

At the same time, the Mariupol City Council claimed that the Russian military had forcibly taken thousands of citizens to Russia.

The city council said, "Russian troops arrested thousands of citizens who were evacuated to the Libobereszny area and sports club buildings in Mariupol last week and forcibly transferred them to Russia," adding, "Russian troops took residents to camp to inspect their belongings and sent some to Russia."

Mariupol is a strategic hub that connects the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia annexed in 2014, and the eastern Donbas (Donetsk, Luhansk state) dominated by pro-Russian separatist rebels.

Currently, Russian troops are carrying out intensive artillery fire surrounding Mariupol, and tanks and others have entered the city center and are engaged in a fierce street war with Ukrainian troops.

As Russian troops indiscriminately bombed not only military facilities but also private buildings such as hospitals, churches, and apartments, deaths continued and the entire city turned into ruins.

The Ukrainian army has prevented Russia's fierce attacks in Mariupol, but the situation here is already leaning toward the Russian army.

The Washington Post (WP) also reported that "Russian troops are advancing deeply into the city, and Ukrainian troops are losing control of the city."

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video speech that the Russian siege of Mariupol would go down in history as a "war crime," criticizing, "What the occupiers did in this peaceful city will be remembered for centuries."
